Ultrasonic Engineering
Ltd: Ultrasonic Engineering has developed a technique
for cutting a variety of foodstuffs such as, gateaux, confectionery,
cakes and pizza. The process produces little crumb and gives
a clean-cut as the ultrasonic system utilises a titanium horn
shaped much like a conventional knife. One of the many advantages
of using this cutting technique is that the knife is self-cleaning
due to the ultrasonics which are transmitted from the generator |

Olympus America Inc.:
Converting ultrasonic vibrations into energy, SonoSurg
scissors minimize bleeding by coagulating as they cut tissue.
Simultaneous coagulation and cutting means procedures can
be performed quickly. Coagulation is performed at a low temperature
without delivery of electrical current through the patient's
body. |
 |
Power Ultrasonics: Imagine
a knife which moves itself backwards and forwards in a sawing
action, thirty thousand times a second. True the distance
moved is very small but the acceleration is so high that nothing
can move with the blade or stick to it. Ultrasonic scalpels
are used by surgeons where they want to cut without exerting
any pressure. In industry ultrasonic cutting tools are used
for products that are difficult to cut by other means. The
heat generated by the ultrasonic vibrations can also be useful.
Some man-made fabrics are cut and simultaneously sealed using
ultrasonic knives to prevent fraying.

Alex Corporation: Alex
ultrasonic cutter "KW-430C" is a general purpose
portable cutter which can cut plastic parts and fablics smoothly.
The cut edge is smooth and beautiful because of ultrasonic
vibration. An operator only handle the probe and step the foot
switch. So, anybody can use easily this ultrasonic cutter.

Fischione Instruments,
Inc.: Ultrasonic disk cutting is a proven method for producing
TEM specimens from hard, brittle materials, such as ceramics,
semiconductors and geological materials. This rapid technique
directly produces disk specimens from materials as thin as
40 mm, cylindrical rods up to 10 mm in length from bulk samples,
or rectangular wafers which are subsequently used in the preparation
of cross-section TEM (X-TEM) specimens. |

GEISS AG: According
to requirements, we offer our CNC trimming machines with an
ultrasonic cutting unit in place of the milling spindle: either
as a single-purpose ultrasonic cutting machine, or with a
second Z axis as flexible production cell. The ultrasonic cutting
technology has indeed a promising future for its precision
is far superior to conventional milling. Nowadays the ultrasonic
cutting unit, that operates without swarf and noise, is predominantly
used for materials that are difficult to be processed or even
not at all with a milling spindle. |

Gatan, Inc.: The original
disc cutter for TEM applications, introduced for cutting 2.3mm
and 3mm discs from brittle materials such as ceramics, semiconductors
and minerals.A variety of cutting tool sizes (0.1mm to 10mm)
and shapes (circles, squares, rectangles, etc.) has expanded
its use beyond microscopy applications (cut holes or cut shapes).
Cutting is achieved through a piezo crystal driven Titanium
tool in conjunction with a water-based slurry of boron nitride.
The gentle action of the cutting tool combined with a constant
tool load provided by the action of the pivoting platform
reduces or eliminates stress and chipping around the cutout
or the cut piece. Sample thickness can range from 30µm
to 5mm and the depth of cut is continually displayed on a
dial indicator (10µm resolution).A microscope and positioning
table (Optional) can provide precise cutting at a specific
point on the sample surface. A primary application is precision
TEM specimen preparation of materials, i.e. Semiconductors.

Misonix Inc.: In October
1996, Misonix enetered into an exclusive twenty-year license
agreement with US Surgical (USS), a subsidiary of Tyco International
Inc. for the worlwide right to sell amd market our ultrasonic
cutting and coagulation system. The Auto Sonix TM uses high
frequency sound waves to divide and coagulate tissue for both
open and Laparoscopic surgery. The partnership with USS is
an important one to Misonix and demonstrates the value of
our ultrasound technology. Our company continues to improve
the product as well as develop new products all designed to
enhance application, performance and utilization. In 2002,
the technology was upgraded and is being well-accepted by
the customers. |

Maschinenbau u. Konstruktion
GmbH Elmshorn: The blade cuts layers up to a thickness
of 8 mm at a frequency of several kHz and with an amplitude
of only a few µm. The cutting speed is up to 60 m per
minute. The accuracy of edge cutting is only a few tenths
of a millimetre. The machine is controlled by a Siemens CNC
continuous path control. Older cutting software can be used
by means of an integrated postprocessor. The MuK ultrasonic
cutter also cuts leather, paper, rubber and many more synthetic
materials. |

Branson Ultrasonic Corporation:
Branson Ultrasonics has been cutting food products since
the early 1970's. Back then we cut things such as Napoleon
snacks, and we even tried to shuck oysters. We used ultrasonic
blades sharpened on one side attached to a hand-held device.
Today, Branson has food manufacturing customers all over the
world cutting products such as cakes, pies, granola bars,
cheese, pizza dough, confectionery products, bread, gum, candy
and even licorice. Clean cuts through multiple layers produce
visual appeal. Fillers, such as nuts or raisins, are cut cleanly
and produce less fragmentation than with conventional cutting
methods. Depending upon the type of product, ultrasonics can
even be used to reshape and reform. Advantages range from
increased blade life to cleaner product cut surfaces, to the
most important: reduced down time for cleaning.

Hielscher - Ultrasound
Technology: Ultrasound-supported cutting and welding offers
remarkable advantages compared to commonly used processes.
The necessary cutting forces are reduced by approx. 75%. The
cutting speed and the related productivity of the cutting
process are considerably increased. In contrast to the thermal
processes, during the ultrasonic welding the sonotrode remains
cold, which augments the bonding quality and cycle period.
Dr. Hielscher GmbH has specialized in the continuous cutting,
welding respectively in the combination of both cutting and
welding of films and plates. Materials such as textile, plastic,
glass and coal fibers, paper and cardboard or rubber composites
are successfully cut or welded. Bonding techniques such as
the welding of plastic parts, heating of adhesive glues, closing
of plastic-coated containers, crimping, punching, etc. are
also offered. When using our ultrasonic processors, different
tools for the corresponding tasks as well as new patented
solutions assure an economical and high quality. |

Spectrum Robotic Systems
Ltd 1999: The 2001 series is extremely useful when processing
materials where traditional methods fail. A good example is
pre-preg kevlar. A cold, dry method of cutting is required
to cut this incredibly strong, sticky material. Ultrasonic
cutting will process this material without burning, delaminating
or otherwise degrading the material. All controls are automated,
position, height and steering of the blade. |
 |
TELSONIC ULTRASONICS:
Using the TELSONIC Ultrasonic Cut'n'Sealing system simultaneous
cutting and edge-sealing of a wide range of materials and
shapes is possible. Research and the development of special
control features, tooling material selection, heat treatment
and FEA design have proven to be key factors in achieving
manufactured product consistency, reliability and cost effective
processing techniques.

Dukane Corporation: Dukane
Ultrasonics food processing uses high-frequency sound vibrations
to process food products faster and eliminate most of the
downtime caused by the continual cleaning of conventional
cutting blades. Ultrasonic equipment provides a new way to
cut, slice, divert, align or transfer a variety of food products
that streamlines production, minimizes product waste and lowers
maintenance costs. |
