Mayo Clinic: Ultrasonic liposuction is a new advance in body contouring surgery that allows the surgeon more latitude in removing unwanted body fat. This new technique uses ultrasonic energy to break up the fat cells in the body and convert the fat to oil so that it can be removed with ease. An ultrasonic generator is attached to a special suction canula. Tumescent fluid is introduced into the fat to be removed. The special hollow canula with the ultrasonic probe at the end is hooked to the ultrasonic generator and the suction vacuum. This canula is then passed through the fat and the ultrasonic energy breaks up the fat cells and converts the fat to oil. The oil is mixed with the tumescent fluid and forms an emulsion. This is then sucked out through the hollow canula. |
