Stapla ultrasonics Corporation.:
When bonding material through ultrasonic welding, the
energy required comes in the form of mechanical vibrations.
The welding tool (sonotrode) couples to the part to be welded
and moves it in longitudinal direction. The part to be welded
on remains static. Now the parts to be bonded are simultaneously
pressed together. The simultaneous action of static and dynamic
forces causes a fusion of the parts without having to use
additional material. |

TWI WORLD CENTRE FOR MATERIALS
JOINING TECHNOLOGY: Ultrasonic welding involves the use
of high frequency sound energy to soften or melt the thermoplastic
at the joint. Parts to be joined are held together under pressure
and are then subjected to ultrasonic vibrations usually at
a frequency of 20, 30 or 40kHz. The ability to weld a component
successfully is governed by the design of the equipment, the
mechanical properties of the material to be welded and the
design of the components. |

EWI WeldNet: When
a rubber ball is dropped, it never bounces back to its drop
height because some of the potential energy is converted to
heat and sound. This type of process is involved in ultrasonic
welding. Instead of a ball, a small projection(s) in the weld
zone is flexed by an oscillating force at rates of 10,000
to 70,000 times per second (kHz). This causes the projection
to melt and flow across the joint to create a weld. A metal
tool (horn) that is oscillating vertically contacts the plastic
part at a distance from the projection and is the means for
delivering the energy. The part on the other side of the joint
area rests on an anvil, ensuring the energy is spent in the
weld zone. Frictional heating can also occur to some extent
because transmission of the energy through the plastic parts
is very complex. |

Branson Ultrasonic Corporation:
Rotary systems enable simple automation for increased
production and efficiency. Branson Ultrasonics Corporation's
new Series 40 Welding System is a self-contained semiautomatic
ultrasonic plastics assembly platform with the emphasis on
configurablity as well as increased production rates. It is
capable of welding, staking, inserting, swaging, or spot welding
thermoplastics. Automatic cycling and air eject keep the operator's
hands free for loading. With only a few minutes of training,
an operator can turn out high-integrity, high-volume thermoplastic
assemblies. |

Dukane Corporation: Dukane
is a major supplier of high-performance Ultrasonic, Vibration,
Hot plate, Spin and Thermal welding systems. Ultrasonic systems
are offered for food cutting and high-end precision metal
welding of delicate electronic assemblies. |
 |
The Ceramic Expert: Ultrasonic
welding takes advantage of the physical fact that friction
generates heat. When two preforms are pressed together at
their connecting surfaces and excited using high-frequency
ultrasonics, the surfaces of the two parts to be joined heat
up so much that their connecting surfaces fuse together. This
functions with both metal parts and plastic parts. |
 |
Toman Tool Corporation:
Consistent and correct amplitude is one of the most important
factors in achieving a high-quality ultrasonic weld. The Amplitude
Gage makes measuring and setting that amplitude easy. |
 |
Hielscher - Ultrasound
Technology: Ultrasound-supported cutting and welding offers
remarkable advantages compared to commonly used processes.
The necessary cutting forces are reduced by approx. 75%. The
cutting speed and the related productivity of the cutting
process are considerably increased. In contrast to the thermal
processes, during the ultrasonic welding the sonotrode remains
cold, which augments the bonding quality and cycle period.
Dr. Hielscher GmbH has specialized in the continuous cutting,
welding respectively in the combination of both cutting and
welding of films and plates. |
